Sallie Ann Johnston Moore

Sallie Ann Johnston Moore passed away on January 9, 2017, in the Hospice House of Catawba County, NC. Sallie was born in Montgomery County, Virginia on September 5, 1932, and was raised in the beautiful hills of Giles County, Virginia, a place she always cherished. She attended school in Eggleston and graduated in a class of twelve. She also attended Radford College. She married James A. Moore on September 1, 1951. Together they raised four sons and shared a strong marriage bond until Jim’s untimely death in 2000. Sallie enjoyed researching genealogy and connecting to Johnston and Moore family members far and wide. She also enjoyed the many family reunions that she attended in Giles County. She was raised in the Eggleston Methodist Church and was woman of strong faith who attended church in various locations that the family lived. She regularly attended the Lakeview Baptist Church in Hickory, N.C. Sallie is preceded in death by her parents, Luther Paul and Anna Farmer Johnston. She is survived by two sisters, Norma Jean Johnston Chafin of Pearisburg, Va., and Brenda Gail Johnston Mutter of Yorktown, Va. She is also survived by her sons, Chuck Moore and wife Lisa of Belmont, N.C., David Moore of Concord, N.C., Mike Moore and wife Lori of Trinity, N.C., and Tony Moore and wife Renae of Crozier, Va. She is also survived by grandchildren Laura Moore Skaff and husband Sam of Charlotte, N.C., Matt Moore and wife Emily of Belmont, N.C., Erin Moore of Cary, N.C., Shawn Moore of Concord, N.C., Alec Moore and Sallie Ann Moore of Crozier, Va., and Makayla Moore of Trinity, N.C., as well as great-grandchildren Kennedy Skaff, Madeline Skaff, Andrew Skaff, Jackson Moore and Hudson Moore. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins with whom she shared great fun and adventures. Sallie also had many close friends and neighbors in Hickory whose company she enjoyed for many years. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 11:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Dr. Brian Burch officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive at the church 1hr before the service from 10 – 11pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Susan G. Komen Northwest NC, 1106 Burke Street, Winston Salem, NC 27101. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
