Peggy Ingram Oakes
Mrs. Peggy Ingram Oakes, 87, formerly of Pearisburg, currently of Rock Hill, S.C., passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Westminster Long Term Care Facility. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Mrs. Oakes was a daughter of the late Dr. David N. Ingram and the late Jane Shapard Ingram. She was a graduate of Emory & Henry College, a past school teacher and volunteer with the rescue squad. She was a homemaker who was devoted to her family. She was the widow of Willis R. Oakes, Sr. Surviving are her children, Willis Ray Oakes, Jr., Karen N. Oakes, Jane Oakes, Paul E. Oakes (Ann), Jon H. Oakes (Nona), Pete A. Oakes and Robert N. Oakes; her sisters, Jane Fye (Dick), Betty Steganga and Patricia Stezin; her brother-in-laws, Charles Oakes (Marie) and Elmer Oakes, Bill Oakes and wife Francis; eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Shahn Wilburn officiating. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Chapel one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Oakes name to the American Heart Association, 222 S. Church St., Charlotte, NC 28202.
