Paul Eugene Henderson

Paul Eugene Henderson, 85, of Pearisburg, (Thessalia community) went to his heavenly home Wednesday, June 1, 2016 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on December 28, 1930 at his home on Sugar Run to Earnest Raymond Henderson and Callie Jane Bratton Henderson. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Juanita Henderson and his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Ruth Poff Henderson. Paul played football for Pearisburg High School and Emory and Henry College. After college, he worked for Jefferson National Forest Service and then the Celanese Corp. in Narrows where he retired from with more than 40 years service. He served as past president of the Narrows Livestock Market and the Giles Farm Bureau Co-op. He was a member of Thessalia United Methodist Church, and a member of the Odd Fellows. He farmed until poor health prevented it. He taught his family the value of hard work and love for God. He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles R. and Linda Henderson and Billy and Mary Henderson, two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara H. and Roger Moses and Robbie H. Robertson, seven grandchildren, Charles R. and Stacey Henderson, Jr., David & Jessica Henderson, Kelly H. and Jonathan Kidd, Amy Henderson, Justin and Jenny Moses, Mack Robertson and Michelle Robertson, ten great-grandchildren. There will be a celebration of his life, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Thessalia United Methodist Church at 2:00pm Charles R. Henderson officiating with burial following in the Thessalia Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Church from 11:00am to 2:00pm before the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Thessalia Cemetery Fund, 550 Arch Eaton Road, Staffordsville, VA 24167. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
