Patricia Ann Smith

Patricia Ann “Maw” McKinney Smith, 84 of Newport, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Heritage Hall Blacksburg.   Pat was born on August 10, 1939, in Mullins, WV and was a daughter of the late Verlie Lee McKinney and Eula Mae Heath McKinney.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wallace Smith and her daughter, Cathy Smith Dowdy and Cathy’s husband, David Allen Dowdy and son, Danny Lee McKinney. 

Pat grew up in Mullins, WV and moved to Roanoke when she was a teenager.  She then met her husband, John, and moved to Mountain Lake where they made their home for their children.  She was a stay at home, mom raising her children, then retiring at Hilltop Grocery in Maybrook.   She loved to crochet and embroider things for the family.  She also made lots of treats for her grandkids.  She was known for being the first at Giles High School for the Friday night football games watching her grandson Josh, play football for the Spartans as well as cooking for the football team.  As her health declined, she spent most of her time at home with her furry friend, her cat, Slash.

She is survived by 1 daughter, Verlena Marie Holmes (Allen) of Christiansburg, 4 grandchildren, Dennis Dean Davis, Jr. (Angie) of Pearisburg, Joshua Lee Davis (Amanda) of Pearisburg, Matthew Allen Holmes of Christiansburg, Selena Marie Holmes of Christiansburg, her very special sister to her, Peggy Marsh of Vinton and 13 great grandchildren, Skyler, Cameron, Brennen, Zoe, Emmalin, Adalee, Dalton, Kayleigh, Meredith, Declan, Jacob, Zandria and Colton
