Mary Snidow Bales

Mary Snidow Bales, 91 of Pearisburg, VA, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 26, 2013 at her home. She was born on August 28, 1922 in Pembroke, VA, and was a daughter of the late Grover Glenn and Margaret Ann Givens Snidow. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, James Arthur Bales, one brother, Frederick Lee Snidow and one sister Anna Katherine Campbell . Mary was a long-time active member of Christ Episcopal Church. She loved working in her flower gardens and received great joy in serving on the Alter Guild, ECW, and sharing recipes and food with family and friends. She is survived by one son, James Glenn Bales and wife Jennifer Speight Bales of Lynchburg , one daughter, Bonnie Lee Bales Fairbrother and husband Matthew of Fredricksburg, VA., two sisters, Gertrude Williams and Roma and husband Dale Collins of Pembroke, and two brothers-in-law, Ivan G. Bales of Pearisburg and Graham C. Bales of Lindside , WV. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 2pm at Christ Episcopal Church in Pearisburg with the Rev. Sarah Morris officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 pm. The family expresses profound gratitude to primary caregiver Jessica Frazier for her loving care of our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Episcopal Church in Pearisburg, VA.
