Martin Emmitt (Beardy) Cardwell

In Loving Memory of Martin Emmitt (Beardy) Cardwell CARDWELL, MARTIN EMMITT (BEARDY), 98 of Pearisburg , VA passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek, VA.  Mr. Cardwell was born on April 7, 1910 in Saltville , VA and was a son of the late William Joseph Cardwell and Mary Allison Cardwell.  Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lake Runions Cardwell, two brothers, Gentry and Benton Cardwell and three sisters, Maggie Helton, Francis Davidson and Violet Owens.  Mr. Cardwell was a WWII veteran having served as a Navy Seabee.  He was a member of the Wabash Oddfellows Lodge #189 and the VFW Post #6000 in Narrows .  He was a retired lineman, an avid horse trader and loved all children, especially his grandchildren.  He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James W. (Bill) and Barbara Cardwell of Pearisburg,  four grandchildren, Donna Cardwell, Tina Hedrick and husband Brian, Eugene Moser, Jamie Cardwell, and three great grandchildren, Joci Scott and husband Richard, Jacob Hedrick, Hunter Martin Cardwell, one great great grandchild, Andrew Scott and special caregiver Shelly Cardwell and special friends, Heather and Kalep Adams.  Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 16, 2009 at 2:00pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Pastor Eddie Kendall and Pastor David Kessinger officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.  The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6 – 8 pm. Military Honors will be given by American Legion Post #68 in Narrows American Legion Post #311 and VFW Post #6000 in Narrows.
