Margaret Virginia Whittaker

Eggleston Virginia's favorite aunt, Margaret Virginia Whittaker died at her home on November 22nd. She is pre-deceased by her longtime companion, Duvall K. Williams. She had 10 familial nieces and nephews as well as numerous honorary ones. "Miss Virginia" carried a torch of education, service, and love for her community. After receiving her degree from Madison College at the height of World War II, she taught in a remote Lutheran mission school for 2 years. From there she returned to Eggleston, never to leave her home of Willow Brook again. She spent forty years in education; pouring into the lives of hundreds of students. It was also Virginia's honor to be a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She will long be remembered for her generosity. At Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she was a charter member, she handcrafted enough Christmas ornaments over the years to provide for each family to have Chrismon trees. Annually, at Easter, Virginia provided bushels of daffodils for local churches and individuals; as well as giving baby ducks and chicks to children. Those of us who knew her are blessed. Thank you to all who have enriched her life. Miss Virginia avidly supported aspiring students from Eggleston. In honor of her, a scholarship fund is being established.
