Maleta Cooper Guthrie

Maleta Cooper Guthrie, 87, of Pearisburg, VA, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Highland Ridge Rehab in Dublin, VA.  Maleta was born on January 30, 1936, in Princeton, WV and was a daughter of the late Blackstone Cooper and Mary Dicie Dishner Cooper.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 son, William Alan Guthrie, Jr, 2 brothers, David Blackstone Cooper, Daniel Cooper and 3 sisters, Rosemary Cooper Butler, Bertha Alice Cooper Snavley and Rebecca Lynne Cooper Thompson.

Maleta was a graduate of Pearisburg High School and Concord College.  She was a member of the Pearisburg Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder and loved helping take care of all aspects of the church’s wellbeing.  She was a retired teacher in the Giles County School System for many years.  She also babysat Dr. Paul and Dr. Julie Stubbs’ children for many years, and she considered them her grandchildren.   

She is survived by 1 sister, Elaine C. Dolinger of Ripplemead, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and best friend, MaryBeth Holton of Pearisburg.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2pm at the Pearisburg Presbyterian Church.  The family will receive friends at the Presbyterian Church one hour before the service from 1 – 2 pm.
