Louise Bolton Stafford Johnston, 99, of (Trigg), Pearisburg, VA, was released from all her suffering on October 10, 2023. Her strength restored, she can once again play the piano and sing her beloved hymns. Louise was born May 23, 1924, in Berton, Virginia, to Robert Cyrus Stafford and Bertha Jennelle Stafford and moved to Trigg, Virginia, as a small child. She attended the community two-roomed school and graduated from Eggleston High School. Soon afterwards, she married Junior Johnston and gave birth to two sons during their 58-year marriage.
She was a faithful member of Wesley’s Chapel First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School class and played the piano for nearly 60 years.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Junior, and her brother Herman Stafford and his wife Mozelle. She is survived by her sons James and his wife Karen of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Andrew and wife Margaret of Fredericksburg, Virginia, as well as five grandchildren: Richard Johnston, Atlanta, Georgia; Kimberley Gray of Knoxville, Tennessee; Janet Shock of Baltimore, Maryland; J. R. Johnston, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia, Stuart Johnston of Richmond, Virginia, in addition to 14 great grandchildren.
Louise was also extremely blessed to have wonderful friends and neighbors Connie J. Bane, Mary Leigh St.Clair, Kent Morris, and others, including the staff at Commonwealth Senior Living in Radford, Virginia. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2pm at Wesley’s United Methodist Church with Rev Tim Smith officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg, VA.
