John Sherwood McGuire

On Monday, March 18th, 2024, our family lost a great brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  John Sherwood McGuire, 79 of Pearisburg, VA passed away peacefully in his home in the loving care of his family.  Born in Pembroke, he was the son of the late John Daniel McGuire and Rebecca Cox McGuire.  He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Odessa Altizer, his 2 brothers and their wives, James McGuire (Mary), Albert McGuire, Sr., (Barbara), a niece, Dorothy “Wendy” McGuire and 2 nephews, Albert McGuire, Jr. and Bubby McGuire.  

 

Sherwood was an avid hunter and fisherman and always got his prey.  He loved being outdoors and going to flea markets and he never met a stranger.  He will be missed, but now he’s in the loving care of his mom & Dad.   Sleep tight, our love till we meet again.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Rose Hilton McGuire, his son, Robert Sherwood McGuire (Brenda) of Wytheville, 2 daughters, Diane McGuire of Martinsville, Patricia Landry (Glenn) of Pearisburg, a loving sister, Mary Pat Watkins of Pembroke.  He is also survived by the light of his life, his granddaughters, Evalyn Landry of Pearisburg, Sierra Hilton of Goldbond, Cristy Watson of NC, Alyssa Landry of Pembroke, Nikki Landry of Pearisburg, 3 grandsons, Anthony Altizer of Martinsville, Eddie Eversole and Jamie Jackson of Wytheville, his special little man, great grandson, David Tyler Smith of Pearisburg, great grandchildren, Hayden, Harper, Jayce, Keegan, Addie, Dawson, Eli, Coby, Levi and Alleigha

 

Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 2pm at the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with Pastor Dave Spencer.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
