James “Jim” Alvin Journell, 68, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024. He was born on March 8, 1956, in Camp LeJunje, NC, to Bernard Nelson Journell and the late Jeanette Compton Journell.
Besides his father, Bernard N. Journell (June) of Narrows, he is survived by his sons, Cody Journell (Amber) of Blacksburg, Carson Journell (Kaitlin) of Pearisburg, his wife Debbie Journell of Ripplemead, his sister Kathy Journell Evans of Pearisburg and 4 grandchildren, Grayson, Teagen, Emma and Jaxson Journell and a nephew, Kyle Evans (Amber).
A skilled carpenter and handyman, Jim took pride in his work and was known for his dedication and craftsmanship. He was a loving and devoted father, always present for his sons’ sporting events, cheering them on at every game.
Jim was beloved in his community, not only for his hard work but for his passion for the outdoors. He could often be found talking about his love for hunting deer, elk, or turkey, sharing stories and advice with friends and neighbors.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and remembered for his kindness, strength, and unwavering love for his family.
Funeral services will be held Friday, October 25, 2024, at 1pm at Riverview Baptist Church in Ripplemead, VA, with Pastor Terry Easter and Pastor Kenneth Booth officiating. The family will receive friends at the church 1 hour before the service, from 12 – 1pm.
