Heather Ellen Vehrs

Heather Ellen Vehrs of Eggleston died peacefully on November 6, 2020 from complications resulting from her long struggle with alcoholism. She was 42. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Karl H. and Ellen E. Vehrs of Manassas, VA. Heather is survived by her father, Will Vehrs of Mechanicsville, VA; her sisters, Justine Nylen of Fulton, NY, Jennica Cunningham of Baldwinsville, NY and Kate Vehrs of Henrico, VA; and her aunts, Nancy Vehrs of Manassas, VA and Bonnie Hancock of Raleigh, NC. Born in Frankfurt, Germany, while her father was stationed with the US Army, Heather graduated from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, VA, where she was a member of the VHSL Northern Region championship cheerleading squad. She attended Virginia Tech, loving Blacksburg and the Hokies. She took great comfort in animals and her feline companion, Mariella. Heather's family would like to thank the many healthcare providers in the New River Valley that valiantly and compassionately treated her over the years, especially, at the end, Dr. Jennifer Bennett and Dr. Tyler Jenkins of Giles Community Hospital. Thanks and gratitude to Michael Johnston, her fiance' who cared for her in her final years, and Noelle Phillips and Pastor Kelly Shushok, dear friends and spiritual advisors.
