Hazel Foster Wood

Hazel Foster Wood, 99, was welcomed with great rejoicing into Heaven on July 10, 2023. She was filled with peace and surrounded by her loving family in her home of 67 years in Pearisburg, Virginia. In all aspects of Hazel’s life, her loving nature was evident. She enjoyed a 71-year-long romance with her husband, William, and was the gentle matriarch of her family. Hazel loved all things pink, was a masterful baker of pies, skilled seamstress, and enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with her family and friends.  

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Cora Foster, beloved husband, John William Wood, Jr., son Roger Wood and his wife Brenda, as well as her sisters Ruby Ross, Vivian Campbell, Norma Light, and brother Paul Foster. She is survived by her son J.W. Wood, III (Jennifer), daughter Paula Taylor (Richard); granddaughters Erin Burton (Mike), Emily Foster (Chris), Julie Strowd (Zach), and Adrienne Webb; step granddaughters Auzeen and Layla Abbassi; great-grandchildren Savanna Hammond (Kyle), Chandler Burton, Mathew Sowell, Morgan Keddrell (Jacob), Macy Estep (Chas), Holden Strowd, Jewel and Stella Webb, as well as her great-great grandchildren, Rori Hammond, Brixton, Charley and Lucy Keddrell. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Edith Wood, Evelyn Wood, and Bettie Foster.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 13, 2023, at 2:00pm at Deep River Chapel in Pearisburg, formerly Pearisburg Christ Fellowship, with Phil Vickers officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.  The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 1 – 2pm.  The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Carilion Giles Community Hospital as well as Carilion Hospice for their compassionate care and support of our beloved Mother and Mamaw.
