Glenn Ryan Robinson

Glenn Ryan (Robbie) Robinson, 84 of Pearisburg, VA, passed over into Glory Land on Thursday, March 10, 2016. He was the son of the Late George E. Robinson and Helen Baker Robinson. He was born in Sycamore, IL and joined the Navy in 1952. He served on two aircraft carriers, the U.S.S. Leyte and the U.S.S. Coral Sea, in the Korean War. He was always proud of his service to his country. While still in the Navy he married his beloved soul mate, Lois Goodwin, and they had their first child, Rosemary, in 1954. After the Navy he graduated from Virginia Tech and then worked 36 years at Celanese in Narrows, VA as a Project Electrical Engineer. He loved his job and his many friends there. Glenn always enjoyed going to church and singing as part of his service to the Lord. He had many friends from all of the churches he attended over the years. He loved going to Friends and Family Restaurant in Pearisburg and ate there daily. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois, and his youngest daughter, Sharon, as well as his sister, Donnabel Baker of Amboy, IL and his brother, Floyd Robinson of Downers Grove, IL. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Rosemary, in 2007. Glenn was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday March 19, 2016 at 2:00pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Jerry Sawyers officiating with entombment following in the Birchlawn Abby in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home that Saturday from 1 – 2pm before the service. In lieu of flowers, plants or food, the family asks that you consider a donation to Relay for Life (Giles County) or the Alzheimer’s Association of Central and Western Virginia, in his memory.
