Gladys Harry Givens
Gladys Louise Harry Givens, 88 of Narrows, VA. departed this life, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at Lewis Gale Hospital at Montgomery, VA. Mrs. Givens was born on April 2, 1923 in Oakvale, WV and was a daughter of the late Pete and Annie Davis Harry. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bud Blanton Givens to whom she was married for 47 years, a daughter Janice Louise Givens, brothers Herman and Lacy Harry of Waiteville, WV, Otis Harry of Pearisburg, sisters Opal Lawson of Pearisburg and Blanch Gautier of Covington. She was called Granny Givens by those who knew and loved her best. She was also known for her German chocolate cake, chocolate cheese cake and cookies. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Lloyd W. Givens and his wife Patty of Madison Heights, one daughter, Sheila G. Collins and her husband Sandy of Pembroke, her grandchildren, Holly Johnson, Darren Givens both of Madison Heights, Duaine Collins of Johns Island, SC, and Chris Collins of Pembroke, four great grandchildren, Koryn Johnson, Shayn Johnson, McKalyn Givens, McKenzie Givens, four brothers, Billy and Larry Harry of Narrows, Willard Harry of Pearisburg, Arnold Harry of New Castle, two sisters Shirley Miller of Conyers, GA, Betty Stallard of Roanoke, many nieces and nephews and her adopted family Bubbie and Peggy Fraley of Narrows. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday March 10, 2012 at 1:00pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with Pastor David Kessinger officiating with burial following in the New Zion Church Cemetery in Waiteville, WV. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6- 8 pm at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you remember the First United Methodist Church in Narrows, the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, c/o Kazim Temple, 628 Campbell Ave. Roanoke, VA, 24016, or the charity of your choice.
