The arms of the Lord accepted a lovely and gracious lady into heaven on Sunday, July 18, 2021. Evelyn Honaker Johnston of Ripplemead, VA, passed away Sunday morning in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital at the age of 92. Evelyn was born in Honaker, VA, moving to Pearisburg, VA as a teenager. In Pearisburg, she met and married Thomas "Tommy" Eugene Johnston, Sr., who was her soul mate for over 60 years. Tommy and Evelyn lived a full and happy life on the family dairy farm in Ripplemead for 50 years, raising two children, Erma Miller and Tom Johnston. Evelyn's life revolved around caring for her family. She was also well known for her delicious home-cooking and one-of-a-kind dishes. While living in Ripplemead, Evelyn worked at Moog in Blacksburg for over 20 years. Upon retiring, Tommy and Evelyn moved to Pearisburg and then to Vinton. While in Pearisburg, they enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and abroad and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her daughter, Erma and Jim Miller of Hardy, Virginia; a son, Thomas E. Johnston, Jr. and wife Elaine of Richmond; one grandson, J.B. Miller, III; two great-grandchildren, Elissa and Amanda Miller, all of Roanoke. A service to thank the Lord for Evelyn's life and to honor her will be held, Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 1pm at the Birchlawn Abby in Pearisburg with the Rev Dr Brian Burch of Pearisburg First United Methodist Church officiating. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
