Estelle Whittaker Woodbury
On Wednesday January 25, 2012 Lelia Estelle Whittaker Woodbury, 82 of Pearisburg, VA., went to be with her Lord after a brief illness. Estelle was born October 21, 1929 to Fredrick Albert and Annie Laurie Whittaker in Eggleston, Va. After high school, Estelle attended National Business College in Roanoke and began working at the Celanese Corporation in Pearisburg, Va. upon graduation. She was proud to recount that during her entire 14 years of education, she never missed a day of school. On June17, 1950 Estelle was united in marriage to Harold Holt Woodbury Sr. with whom she has spent a lifetime of devotion and love. Well known for her community and church service, Estelle was a very active, life-long member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Pearisburg. In addition she was a member of the Giles Historical Society, the Pearisburg Womens Club, the Pearisburg Garden Club and the New River Red Hat Society. Throughout her life, Estelles desire to give back to her community and church was only surpassed by her genuine love for people and for her family. She was the proud mother of three children, grandmother to seven grandchildren and great grandmother of eight. Estelle was preceded in death by two brothers, Fredrick A. Whittaker, Jr. and Wilmot Walker Whittaker. She is survived by her husband Harold H. Woodbury, Sr. of Pearisburg, two sons and a daughter, Harold Holt Woodbury, Jr. and wife Karen of Roanoke, Fredrick Arthur Woodbury of Eggleston and Barbara Woodbury Watson and husband Tom of Bridgewater; a sister, Virginia Whittaker; seven grandchildren, Erin Weldon, Anna Mwangi, Trace Woodbury, Christy Lam, Halie Rogers, Jenny Fitzgerald, and Walker Woodbury and eight great grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Givens Funeral Home of Pearisburg on Friday, January 27th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted at Pembroke First United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012. Memorial gifts may be made in Estelles name to: Redeemer Lutheran Church of Pearisburg, Va. or to The Giles County Historical Society.
