Earalyn Johnston DeBusk

Earalyn Johnston DeBusk, 90, of Ripplemead, VA went to be with the Lord on September 28, 2022. Earalyn was born on March 21, 1932, in Pearisburg, VA, and was the daughter of the late Emory Shuler Watts Johnston and Eula Ould Johnston. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Richard Amos DeBusk, one son, Michael Jay DeBusk, one grandson, Michael Jason DeBusk and her brother Thomas Eugene Johnston. Earalyn was a graduate of Pearisburg High School. She is survived by her two sons, Richard Erle DeBusk (wife Debbie) of Spokane, WA, Steven Lee DeBusk of Martinsville, VA, one daughter, Mary E. Walker (husband Steve) of Summerville, SC, 7 grandchildren (Nicholas, Jon, Sarah, Rachel, Spencer, Abigail, Reagan), three great grandchildren (Nicholas Alexander DeBusk, Ava and Lucie DeBusk), one brother, Donald Johnston of Princeton, WV and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Earalyn was a lifelong homemaker, taught piano and was an organist for the Pearisburg Presbyterian Church where she was a lifelong member. Earalyn enjoyed tending to her flower and vegetable gardens, operated a greenhouse selling plants and flowers, played competitive bridge, enjoyed chess and tennis, and was on the James Madison University ladies basketball team. Earalyn also had a long time habit of a daily three mile walk with her neighbor Alice Kessinger. Later in life she enjoyed watching college and professional football. One of Earalyn’s passions was learning and reading and she could always be seen reading the latest book on Philosophy, Psychology or Health, completing a Sudoku puzzle, playing Scrabble and never missed her nightly Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy shows. Funeral services will be conducted, Friday, September 30, 2022, at 11am in the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg, VA with the Rev. Leigh Ann Min officiating.
