Douglas J. Turner, 79, of Pearisburg, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 24, 2023, from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Born February 20, 1944, Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Eva (Evans) Turner, and his great friend and brother-in-law, Bill Stables. Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Marjorie (Whitlow), their daughter, Tamara Connolly and son-in-law Michael. Additional survivors include his beloved sister and brother-in-law, Lana and Jack McClanahan, his beautiful sisters-in law Pamela Stables, Brenda Hendrickson (Finley), Linda Hager (Rodger) and Paula Lee (Greg), numerous nieces and nephews, and his canine companions, Charlie and Buddy Jack. Doug was a sportsman, hunter and hobbyist. He enjoyed tennis, golf and was an avid runner. He loved wood-working and making heirloom pieces for his family. He had a great sense of humor and loved to play pranks on family and friends. Doug was an astute listener and would always give sound and measured advice when asked, and occasionally when not asked. Services will be held Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg, VA with pastor Eddie Kendall officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to The Alzheimer’s Association or the Family Caregiver Alliance. The family would like to offer special thanks to his caregivers from Hospice in his final days, especially to Joelle, Kelly, Kayla and Chaplain Robyn.
