Doris Marie Cannoy Peters, 91 of Ripplemead, VA went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 6, 2019. Doris was born on April 23, 1928 in Beckley, WV and was a daughter of the late William Preston Cannoy and Nannie Rhea Crigger Cannoy. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Webster (Pete) Peters, Jr., two sons, Barry Lynn Peters, Randy Wayne Peters, one brother, Reece Eugene Cannoy, one sister, Lilly (Sis) Cannoy and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy F. Cannoy, Loretta Peters Oakley and one nephew, Gregory Oakley. Doris grew up in Wytheville, was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg, was a former Sunday School teacher and she throughly loved the company of family and friends. She is survived by, four nieces, Norma C. Phillippi of Wytheville, Donna C. McAllister (Keith) of Rural Retreat, Teresa Perdue (Russell) of Ripplemead, Kim Williams (Keith) of Ripplemead and two nephews, William R. Cannoy (Pam) Pocahontas, Marcus Dale Sarver of Pearisburg, one sister-in-law, Betty Peters Sarver (Jack) of Ripplemead, one-brother-in-law, James R. Oakley (Betty), numerous great nieces and nephews and three special friends, Debbie Mays, Debbie Townley and her cat, Baby. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 10, 2019 at 11:00am at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Dr. Brian Burch officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.
