Donald W. Wilson

Donald W Wilson, 89, a resident of the Bane Community in Giles County, VA, died Saturday, February 11, 2023.  Born March 19, 1933, across the cress pond in New River Virginia, he was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Ruth Wilson Boyd Price; father, Robert Thomas Boyd, and brothers Robert Eugene Boyd and Frankie Dean Wilson.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frankie Pearl Eaton Wilson;  daughter Melissa Ruth Wilson Obenhaus (Bruce) of Christiansburg, Virginia; sons Daniel Eaton Wilson of Pearisburg, Virginia and Steven Douglas Wilson (Jody) of Roxboro, North Carolina.  He is also survived by two grandsons, Joshua Morgan Obenhaus of Christiansburg, Virginia; Robert Franklin Wilson Obenhaus of Greeley, Colorado; half-sister, Carol Boyd Sledge of Brentwood Tennessee; nephew Leonard Dean Wilson (Joanna) of Woodburn, Kentucky; niece Paula Dean Wilson Roberts (Jason) of West Point, Virginia; nephew Michael Brent Sledge (Anna) of Lascassas, Tennessee, and niece, Angela Sledge Glennie (Craig) of Houston, Texas.  Graduating from Radford High School on a Friday, he began working for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company the following Monday and from which he retired after 38 years of service.  He also served in the US Army at Fort Gordon Georgia.  After moving from Radford to the Bane Community in the early 1980s he began raising cattle and farming with Frankie Pearl by his side.  Visitation will be Tuesday, February 14, 2023, 10:00am – 11:00am at Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg, Virginia.  Graveside service will be February 14, 2023, 11:00am at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg.  Pallbearers will be Rodney Croy, Tony Eaton, Darrell Link, Carroll Purdue, David Reynolds and Greg Smith.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to:Eaton’s Chapel Church Building Fund, c/o Carroll Purdue, 1526 Spring Valley Road, Staffordsville VA  24167.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at givensfuneralhome.com.
