Barbara Abell Johnston

Barbara Abell Johnston, 85, formally of Pearisburg, Virginia died December 26, 2018 at the Raleigh Court Health Center in Roanoke, Virginia. Barbara was born March 21 1933 in Roanoke, Virginia the daughter of the late Jess Ivanhoe Abell and Katherine Overfelt Abell. She was also proceeded in death by her husband of 61 years Wilford Pharr (Bill) Johnston. She is survived by her sons Frank K. Johnston of Roanoke and Scott A. and Michelle G. with their children Sullins A., Eliza S. and Maverick K. Johnston of Daleville. Barbara grew up in Boones Mill and Fairlawn, VA. and graduated from Dublin High School in 1950. She went to Radford College earning her BA degree in 1954 and was an art teacher for Pearisburg High School, a career she truly loved. Funeral services will be conducted December 28, 2018 at 2pm Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg, VA. Interment will follow in Birchlawn Burial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers the family request gifts be made to the Giles County Lifesaving and Rescue Squad or the Roanoke Rescue Mission.
